Welcome to Aberdeen Muay Thai!
WelcomeThai Boxing - also known as Muay Thai - is an ancient martial art, originating in Thailand over 2000 years ago. Many think that other martial arts such as Taekwondo and Karate are as old as Muay Thai, but many of them were only created in the last 100 years.

There are many traditions surrounding this martial art; for example, prior to bouts, the two fighters dance around the ring to special music.

This dance is called the Raam Muay or Wai Kru and is intended to honour and pay respect to the boxer's trainer, his religion, family, sport and the 'fighting spirits'.

Why is Muay Thai exciting?

Muay Thai is a very effective, offensive fighting technique. It is characterised as the Art of Eight Limbs (two shins, knees, elbows and fists), together with its unique clinchwork (a form of stand-up grappling).

It is an exciting martial art to both watch and take part in, and nowadays there are strict rules to protect fighters. For example, the Phraya Pichai Thai Boxing Camp frequently organises inter-club events where members can experience the thrill of fighting in the ring under strict supervision.

Why should I take up Muay Thai?

People take up Muay Thai for many reasons, whether to learn an effective self defence technique or improve their overall fitness and stamina - you could burn up to 1000 calories in a typical training session!
